The German labor market is looking relatively healthy these days, but closer study reveals that over 50 percent of new contracts these days are short-term. One in ten Germans - and among the under-30s, one in three - now have fixed-term positions, and they're becoming increasingly common. It makes it hard to start families, apply for loans from banks for a house or a car; in fact, even signing a rental agreement is far from easy. Workers with short-term contracts also need to spend a lot of time planning ahead - looking for job adverts and writing applications, for example. It's a situation that not even the best education can protect against.
